The Stranorlar Regional Training Centre is a purpose built dedicated Training Centre. It was established in 2002 to serve the training needs of a broad range of outdoor Local Authority personnel, with many courses servicing Water, Roads, Environment areas. This now extends to training for the Fire Service staff.
Although open to all, it primarily serves the needs of counties, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan and Sligo. The development of the centre has been assisted in particular by the expertise and experience of the Local Authority Services National training Group (LASNTG). The operation of the Centre is supervised by a Management Committee made up of the Chief Executive from each of the 4 constituent Local Authorities. The Training Centre Manager manages the day to day operations and is assisted by a Technical Committee comprising of the Training Officers and Senior Engineers in Roads Water Environment also drawn from the constituent local authorities.
The majority of courses have a practical element, allowing each delegate to put theory into practice through practical exercises, assessments and simulations.
The Regional Training Centre is easily accessible via the N13 or N15 in the town of Stranorlar on the Railway Road (please see map). The centre is alongside the Bus Eireann Depot and is adjacent to the property of Donegal Council‘s Stranorlar and Ballybofey Waste Water Treatment Plant. The Centre is approximately 35 miles from Derry City Airport and approximately 38 miles from Donegal’s own Carrickfin Airport. The local twin towns of “Ballybofey and Stranorlar” offer ample options for high quality accommodation and at very competitive rates.

Facilities:
The Centre has an enclosed floor space of 572sq. meters which provides a high standard venue for the delivery of training and room hire.
It has two lecture rooms which cater for 25 people and which are fully equipped with Audio Visual equipment. The rooms can be opened up to easily accommodate up to 50 people. It has a state of the art IT Training suite which caters for up to 13 people, a Board Room (12 people), canteen facilities which caters for up to 50 people, showers, Staff offices and a large reception area. There is ample parking space (50 +).
There is also an Outdoor covered Training area (297sq. metres) and an indoor Practical Training area with an inside trench area, stores, office and toilet facilities. It has a dedicated construction plant training area with an onsite classroom which caters for up to 12 people.
The Plant training area also has a 400 sq metre Weather Canopy over a dedicated Road Reinstatement training surface and which gives complete cover for various other training courses.
The Centre has a state of the art Water Leak Detection Facility and a purpose built Confined Space Facility, built to C & G specification with all its own BA equipment.

Accreditation:
Stranorlar Regional Training Centre is an Approved Training Organisation. It is registered by SOLAS as an approved Training centre under the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS). A number of Internal Trainers are listed on the National Trainers Register and the centre has a member of staff qualified and appointed as an Internal Verifier.
SRTC is accredited to deliver City & Guilds Confined Space training (Low Risk, Medium Risk, High Risk & Emergency Search & Rescue) and the centre is fully equipped with its own BA equipment etc. This facility was purpose built to C & G specification and has its own trainers approved to deliver this training.
The SRTC is the only ROI registered training provider accredited under ITSSAR (Independant Training Standards Scheme and Register). The SRTC deliver courses under this accreditation for all Plant type courses that are not accredited by SOLAS.
The SRTC is now approved by IT Carlow for training delivery and the SRTC continues to build on accreditations as the need arises.
